The Village of Garden City, incorporated in 1919, is located on of Long Island in mid Nassau County approximately 28 miles east of Manhattan and approximately 98 miles west of Montauk.  Garden City is bordered by the hamlets of Old Westbury, Uniondale and Franklin Square.

Garden City, sometimes know as the Wall Street of Long Island, has tree-line streets, lush green lawns and prohibits curbside parking during certain hours. Strict zoning restrictions are enforced to preserve Stewart’s vision. Garden City is close to Nassau Community College, Adelphi, Hofstra Universities, New York Institude of Technology and Old Westbury, C.W. Post College, and State University of New York at Old Westbury
 
Housing: Garden City has a mix of house styles including ranches, traditionals, split-levels, tudors, Victorians, contemporaties and colonials.
 
Transportation: Garden City does have local bus transportation and is the Garden City stop on the Long Island Road’s Hempstead branch. 
 
Shopping / Restaurants: Garden City has fine restaurant, specialty stores and a Sony IMAX movie theater. The largest shopping is Roosevelt Fieldand the Mall at The Source. There is also the outlet shopping at Tanger Arches outlet in Deer Park. 
 
Parks: 930-Acre Eisenhower Park, there is also access to town beaches on the Great South Bay including Lido Beach and Point Lookout.
 
  
 
Community Events: Fall Festival, Irish Festival, Dutch Festival, Street Fairs, Tree Lighting, Summer Gazebo Concerts, Antique Show, Long Island Book and Ephemera Fair.

Some Historical Information About Garden City

Garden City was founded by multi-millionaire Alexander Turney Stewart and was created as an upscale community for those seeking to escape from New York City.   Doubleday, Page & Co., known as Country Life Press, moved it’s operation to Garden City and purchased additional land and estate homes were built for the executives on Fourth Street. Roosevelt Field was once an airstrip and in 1927, Charles Lindberg departed here in the Spirit of St. Louis on the first solo trans-Atlantic flight. The former mansion of paper and lumber millionaire William S Hofstra, The Netherlands, is now the Administration Offices (Hofstra Hall) of Hofstra University.
