Syosset is a hamlet located on the north shore of Long Island in Nassau County approximately 34 miles east of Manhattan and approximately 89 miles west of Montauk. Syosset borders the vilage of Muttontown and the hamlets of Woodbury, Plainview, Jericho and Oyster Bay.

Housing: Syosset home styles include capes, faarm ranches, colonials, split-levels, hi-ranches and luxury homes. Many of the old estates have been broken up and the land belonging to the former estates sold off.
Transportation: Syosset does have local bus transportation and is the Syosset stop on the Long Island Road’s Port Jefferson branch.
Parks: There is Syosset-Woodbury Community Park, and access to beaches on the Long Island Sound, marina facilities, and other public parks. There is access Oyster Bay beaches including Centre Island Beaches and Charles E. Ransom Beach.

Some Historical Information About Syosset, NY
Syosset was part of the famed Gold Coast, which stretched from Great Neck to Huntington on Long Island’s North Shore. The great and powerful, rich and famous came here to spend their fortunes building lavish estates to accommodate their lifestyles which included opulent mansions resembling chateaus and castles with manicured landscapes, swimming pools, tennis courts, and golf courses. The late 1800’s – the early 1900’s created new millionaires with new and expanded industries and many of them came to Long Island to build . Most of these powerful families came to Long Island because it was in close proximity to Manhattan, and was a sportsman’s paradise. There were foxhunts and horseback riding in Old Westbury and Wheatley Hills. Yachting and fishing could be found off the coast of Glen Cove, Kings Point, and Oyster Bay. Golfing was popular in Brookville and North Hills.
Many of these estates are still private homes, some altered, some not. Some were adapted to reuse, others demolished, and some are open for tours or events.
